Apply for “Neighbours in the West” projects

Call for project proposals regarding the Nordic Council of Ministers’ Co-operation with its Neighbours in the West. The total budget of the application round is approx. 2,7 MDKK or 360.000 €. Deadline Thursday 14th June 2012.

Project proposals that will be considered in this application round address one or more of the following themes:

- The sea

- Business, environment, climate, energy

- Education, research and innovation

- Culture

- Health

Co-financing of the project is required from project partners. At least 50% co-financing is required from partners from the Nordic Neighbours in the West.

From fossil fuels to bioenergy: Nordic-Baltic countries leading the way

The Nordic-Baltic region has great potential in the development of bioenergy and biomass usage. There is a very effective forestry industry and the use of surplus products from agriculture is extensive. That was among the main points put forward by leading experts at a session on bioenergy organized by the Nordic Council of Ministers at the BDF Summit in Gdansk on October 26th.

The NCM now wants to promote the cross-sectoral cooperation across the region to explore potential synergies between sectors like forestry, agriculture, energy and waste management.

- We must move away from using fossil fuels towards biobased sustainable societies and here in this region we have developed the technology needed to make this move. We have the possibility to meet the challenges and if we can explore these possibilities, we can also help others along this way, said Halldór Ásgrímsson, Secretary General of the Nordic Council of Ministers (NCM) at the session.
